SeaDataNet 2 final meeting

Ifremer will host the SeaDataNet 2 final meeting at its premises in Brest from the 15th to the 17th of September.

SeaDataNet, inter-operable marine data infrastructure at a pan-European scale

FP6 and FP7 European projects SeaDataNet which are coordinated by IFREMER have developed a pan-European infrastructure to ease the access to marine data measured by the countries bordering the European seas.

This infrastructure is semi-distributed: the data themselves are archived in the data centres that are connected to the SeaDataNet system, only metadata (descriptions of data) are centralized in several focal points.

46 data centres from 35 countries are connected to SeaDataNet and partners of the consortium, and the infrastructure is also used by many partners of other European initiatives such as EMODnet, Geo-Seas... At present marine data of the 103 data centres connected to the infrastructure are available through SeaDataNet portal.

A total of almost 1.8 million of profiles, time series or trajectories are described in SeaDataNet infrastructure. 87% of the data are freely available without access restriction, and for the remaining 13%, data description is available and data may also be distributed for specific studies after negotiation with the data provider.
