IBTS, a European cruise to assess fishery resources in the eastern Channel and in the North Sea

As part of the International Bottom Trawl Survey (IBTS), the Fishery Resources Laboratory of the IFREMER North Sea-Channel Centre conducted a one-month IBTS cruise in the eastern English Channel and in the North Sea. A party of 21 scientists boarded the research vessel Thalassa on 13 January 2011 in Brest. Carried out in collaboration with six European partners and coordinated by the International Council for Exploration of the Sea (ICES), this research cruise was undertaken to calculate abundance indices for the main commercial species fished in this area. IFREMER conducts this cruise during the first quarter of each year.
