Vulnerability of coastal ecosystems to global change and extreme events - International symposium, 18-21 October 2011 in Biarritz

From 18-21 October 2011, an international symposium co-organised by Ifremer, CNRS, the Museum of the Sea in Biarritz and their scientific partners will be held at the Municipal Casino and the Halle d'Iraty in Biarritz: “Vulnerability of coastal ecosystems to global change and extreme events - at the crossroads of knowledge to the benefit of coastal and marine ecosystem services”.

More than 150 talks and posters from some 15 countries will contribute to providing an overview of the scientific knowledge on observation, evolution and adaptive capacities of coastal ecosystems confronted with climate change and human activities.

This colloquium is associated with the Oceanovation trade fair, which is geared to public and private users of the marine environment and addresses issues related to ocean observation, forecast and reduction of natural and human-mediated impacts. This coupling will foster dialogue between scientists and socio-economic stakeholders.

A conference and exhibits for the general public, featuring the rich fauna, the varied landscapes and the biodiversity of marine environments as well as maritime heritage, are also scheduled.
