Sea for society – 12 countries join forces to promote a blue society

12 countries, 20 partners, with funding from the European Commission and an ambitious goal: to build together a "Blue Society" and strengthen the European citizens' awareness of the oceans.

The "Sea for society" project brings together European universities, NGOs, research centers (including Ifremer), science museums and centers of economic innovation. Together, these organizations will mobilize scientists, economic actors, civil society and policy makers. Sea for Society will help the European Commission to identify areas of research that may serve as groundwork for future policies and investments leading to a blue society.

Throughout the year 2013, citizens will be consulted in several European countries. In 2014, a large mobilization campaign will be developed to promote field actions. In spring 2015, a European conference will bring together the conclusions and actors of this new vision for the oceans.
